Meet the Author
In his long career, Dale Robbins has worn many hats, theater manager, boat show director, corporate executive, history professor, and now houseparent to thirteen teens in Hershey, PA. But storytelling has always been his passion. His vivid imagination, rooted in real places like Salisbury and Miami (site of his most recent novel), fuels his writing with depth and authenticity. Whether drawing from his childhood memories at Catawba College or his experiences across the country, Dale’s stories are heartfelt, thoughtful, and quietly profound.>>
What an interesting read! I've been to the Miami Boat Show and just wonder how much of this could be really true? The Cuban-American population is so dominant - and in the era of 90's the anti-Castro forces were prevalent...the story told in flashback and as a straight laced college prof reveals how he ever got involved to his teenage son, keeps you wanting to know, AND THEN WHAT....nice touch to throw in a "coming of age" story for the teen as well. Enjoyed every twist and turn! (The "ex-spies" in Miami is a nice touch - and a real one.)
As a convert to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (some 35 years ago now), much of this story touched my heart. I laughed, smiled, and outright cried, often. I've known the author for most of those 35 years and his latest book did not disappoint.
As a former Miamian, I enjoyed reading about my former hometown and its history, and can testify to its accuracy. The story unfolded authentically and the characters ring true, as do the emotions and the satisfying ending. Well done Dale!
One of the standout aspects of this book is how it combines high-stakes adventure with an insightful look at family and belief. This book has the perfect mix of action, mystery, and heart. Whether you love thrillers, family drama, or just a great adventure.
In telling the details of the anti-Castro sentiment in Miami, Robbins at times takes a lot of poetic license – at other times, it is as if he had access to our files on Castro, and the Cuban-American community in South Florida.
What a great story for LDS readers! We were surprised when a lifelong friend included a chapter on New Zealand in his novel. Having served there as Mission President and an MTC President we were touched that Dale was able to weave into his story some of the amazing events involving the Church in a nation which we consider to be almost a second home.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I was surprised at how quickly I was engrossed in it, and I was half way through the book the first day because of how much I enjoyed it. The adventurous story of the parents was exceptionally entertaining, while the budding love of their son and his girlfriend was heartwarming. I also enjoyed the way the narrative immerses you in the past for a little while, then connects to the present. Fun read
